DGLC Scholarships

In 2013, the Derry Girls Lacrosse Club established a Scholarship program to help local students who participated in or assisted as a volunteer for the DGLC.   To be eligible, an applicant must be a graduating senior from Pinkerton Academy and plan to pursue a postsecondary education.    Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic, athletic and leadership skills while having participated in school sports, extra-curricular, and community service activities.

Scholarship applications are available on the DGLC website under the Documents Tab and winners are announced each May.

DGLC is able to offer these scholarships through the generosity of our DGLC members, corporate sponsors and through the volunteer efforts of our DGLC Coaches and Board of Directors.

Tara Robertson Scholarship

In 2007, Coach Bryon Murphy and Team created a scholarship to honor former player Tara Robertson of the Class of 2002.

 .  This Award is presented to a Senior and selected by the Pinkerton Academy Varsity Girls Lacrosse Coaches

 .  Tara Played youth Lacrosse in Derry;

 .  She was a starter since her freshman year and she was voted as a Tri Captain by her teammates as a Junior;

 .  She was an UNE National Tournament participant as a Junior;

 .  A fun to be around free spirit, with a contagious laugh;

 .  She had a tremendous sense of humor;

 .  She donated her time to the youth lacrosse programs in Derry.

Tara was a teammate in every sense of the word.  As talented as she was (All State as a junior) she was equally unassuming and reflective of praise and was very uncomfortable in the spotlight.  Within a week of teams being selected, Tara knew most everyone’s name Senior thru Freshman and would go out of her way to try and make a connection even with a first year player who had never seen the sport played.  She was a fierce competitor who hated to lose and she was equally as quick to compose herself and be ready for the next challenge.  It was for this fierce and intense yet fun loving passion for the game of Lacrosse that this scholarship (and alumni game were started by her former teammates).  She simply “loved the game of Lacrosse.”  Once you were a teammate of Tara’s you had a teammate for life!   From former PA Coach Bryon Murphy -  "In my 36 years of coaching, certainly one of my top 10 athletes (male or female) to have had the opportunity to work with."
